Fan favorite Kellie Martin comes to UP tonight in Dear Viola, a sweet variation on You’ve Got Mail and Shop Around the Corner (and the original, Cyrano de Bergerac). The TV movie business has been good for Martin–she was just on our screens at Christmas over on Hallmark Channel, and outside of TV, she’s just published her first novel.

Set a small-town newspaper, Martin plays Katie, the paper’s accountant who secretly picks up the reins of the advice column when the longtime columnist retires. She soon finds herself suggesting romance to a widowed single father fisherman who has reached out to her, but he doesn’t quite follow the clues and cues she sets out for him as becomes the object of her own affection.

Co-starring with Martin in the Canadian-filmed production are Jefferson Brown (Being Erica/The L.A. Complex), Sheila McCarthy (Little Mosque on the Prairie), Adamo Ruggiero, (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Arnold Pinnock (Combat Hospital),  and Brittany Gray (Hemlock Grove). It was co-written by , an executive producer on ABC Family’s Lincoln Heights and , who has directed episodes of that series, as well as Haven, Lost Girl, and The Glades, and written several TV movies. It’s directed by Laurie Lynd, who has directed several episodes of the Canadian series, Murdoch Mysteries, which airs in the US on Ovation as The Artful Detective. So, the pedigree is solid all around.

Here are a couple of sneak peeks. Dear Viola premieres tonight on UP at 7/6c following encores of The Town That Came A-Courtin, a cute, funny film Lauren Holly did back in January, at 3 pm/2c, and last month’s Far From Home at 5 pm e/4c.
