[Warning: General spoilers for episode.]

Is it me, or has this been a deadly season so far on Justified? Last week, Boyd’s crew dealt with the repercussions of the Crowes’ itchy trigger fingers, and this week, the body count ticks upward but none of the Crowes have a hand in them. We kick off with Raylan still not quite able to embrace the idea of a vacation. Instead, he heads to Memphis to investigate the death of Hot Rod’s crew down south (word of which has made its way to Kentucky).

This pairs him up with extra special guest star Eric Roberts (having a flat out boozy ball) as a DEA agent who’s not much interested in helping Raylan until Raylan tells him he’s merely the first stop on a courtesy tour of federal offices. What follows is their A to B to C hunt for Hot Rod that puts them in a room with pretty much everybody who’s had their hand in the drug trade this season.

Over at the prison, Ava’s potential customers are antsy, and her nurse liaison on the inside makes a violent request of Boyd. Then Ava finds out the terms of their agreement extend to inside violence as well. In short, as she tells Boyd when he finally comes to see her, she misses Harlan County lock-up.

It’s a busy episode. Also look for:

  • NCIS‘s Muse Watson in a small, but pivotal role.
  • Kendal and Wendy to have a heart to heart.
  • Hot Rod’s full identity to be revealed.
  • Art and Raylan to (sort of) have it out (again).
  • Dewey to finally take the wheel on things.
  • Roscoe and Jay to underestimate their place in the pecking order.
