[Warning: General spoils for tonight’s new episode.]

Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart is in the home stretch of its freshman season and thus far, the show has dealt with the ramifications of the mine disaster as it affected the families left behind. Last week, we learned one man survived. I’m pretty sure that was new information.

Tonight, in “Perils of the Soloists,” he returns home from the hospital, opening up a fresh new set of emotions for the townspeople, and his own family. I’m excited for the episode, because the survivor, Adam Miller, is played by one of my favorite Canadians, Chad Willett, whom most folks will remember from The Chronicle, an early series back when Syfy was SciFi. He’s also appeared on shows like Haven, The Secret Circle, and Human Target.

Christine Chatelain plays Adam’s wife, Laurel, and she’s a familiar face from appearances in shows like Motive, Sanctuary, and Fringe. The episode will also follow Abigail and Elizabeth as they leave Abigail’s row house for the rooms above the cafe while Elizabeth and Jack help put the Founders Day celebrations together for Coal Valley.

I’m so enjoying this show, and I hope we hear renewal news soon. Just last week, Hallmark Channel gave a proper series order to The Good Witch, based on its massively successful film franchise, so they’re getting into the series business in a big way.

Here’s a (Jack and Elizabeth-focused) sneak peek of tonight’s episode, which airs at 9/8c and repeats tomorrow and Friday.
