Nathan Fillion plays the title character of Richard Castle on ABC’s Castle. He has charm and the innocence of a kid sometimes, which is why I chose him as an all-star for 2013. I have been following Nathan’s career since Castle premiered in 2009 but before that, I really didn’t know much about him. I am sure that’s hard for some of you to believe, given the Firefly following that’s out there.

The storylines so far for the season have really shown his skills as an actor, from the serious (“Valkyrie” and “Dreamworld”) to working a case with his daughter Alexis…to getting engaged to his muse, Kate Beckett. Nathan really makes everything believable, even when Castle is offering up his classic outrageous case theories!

In real life, Nathan has a charity (Kids Need to Read) and makes sure that fans of Castle donate to charity instead of giving him gifts. I think it’s pretty cool that he has that kind of heart. Most people don’t get to see the more personal side of Nathan because he has to put on his “actor” hat most of the time. I know I couldn’t do half of the work he and the others on Castle do.

Keep up the great work, Nathan!

I can’t wait to see what the rest of season 6 brings for Nathan and how he portrays his character in 2014.

Castle returns with new episodes Monday, Jan. 6 on ABC.
