[WARNING: General spoilers in plot synopsis and promo images.]

When Nikita‘s third season closed out last May, we had a cliffhanger and a final season to come that looked like it might not return until 2014. Thankfully, the fourth season of six episodes to properly wrap up the show is rolling out earlier than planned.

Six episodes is about a quarter of every previous season, but it’s also a gift because it gives everybody involved behind the scenes, and those of us who fell in love with these characters at home, a chance to say goodbye.  Kara has already shared some of the behind the scenes thoughts on the show’s end from her visit with the cast and crew at SDCC this summer.

Nikita‘s farewell begins tomorrow as season four kicks off with “Wanted” in the aftermath of Division’s destruction, Nikita’s frame-up for the murder of the not-dead POTUS, and her decision to walk away from her family.

Here’s what The CW promises: Nikita is still on the run after she was framed for the assassination of the President of the United States. Dale, a reporter (Todd Grinnell), who you might recognize from Jane by Design and Desperate Housewives), starts questioning what really happened that night. Nikita sees this as an opportunity to clear her name so she re-enters the country to talk to Dale but walks right into a trap set by Amanda. The team is alerted and Michael sets out to find Nikita before Amanda does. While Birkoff and Ryan help Michael from their new mobile office, a high-tech aircraft, Alex stakes out a human-trafficking ring and learns The Shop is involved. Things go south and Alex is surprised when Owen/Sam shows up at the scene. Eagle Egilsson directed the episode written by Kristen Reidel.

We’d be remiss to not take note of the silver lining of Nikita‘s end. Shane West and Aaron Stanford have already booked their next gigs, and Lyndie Greenwood has been kicking ass over on Sleepy Hollow. We just need to get the rest of the cast into other gigs and we’ll be golden.

Here is a preview of “Wanted,” which airs tomorrow night at 9/8c on The CW.
