Warning: Spoilers Ahead

We know, we know. Season five just wrapped and we’re already talking about season six? Yes! We’re always excited for a new installment of this great show. Not only will Face Off be back in January, but there are a number of exciting new challenges and noteworthy guest judges.

Perhaps the most exciting challenge to date will happen this season. The contestants travel to Tokyo, Japan where they will be challenged to create a stylized anime character based on their own alter ego. Now, if that doesn’t excited a creature creator and/or makeup artist excited I don’t know what will. Of course, we’ve got the usual suspects back as well: host McKenzie Westmore as well as judges Ve Neill, Glenn Hetrick and Neville Page. Makeup legend Michael Westmore resumes his role as mentor.

Who will be (guest) judging the contestants? Oscar-winning makeup artist Tami Lane, writer/director Stephen Sommers, visual effects developer/director Scott Stewart, writer/director Oren Peli, Oscar-winning makeup artist Howard Berger, famed creature actor Doug Jones, former Face Off judge Patrick Tatopoulos, Oscar and BAFTA winning makeup artist Valli O’Reilly, writer/director Len Wiseman, two-time Oscar nominated makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji, anime artist and sci-fi illustrator Hidetaka Tenjin and world-famous music producer and DJ Rukso.

More about the season six challenges:

The first spotlight challenge: Beauty & the Beast makeup in which the contestants must create an original Beast who would live in a chosen castle with its Belle.

Other challenges: The creation of an intricate Medieval dragon warrior that breathes not only fire, but also elements of ice and poison; an outlandish rock ‘n roll guitarist character; an original wizard inspired by an array of unique wands on display; a whimsical creation inspired by Roald Dahl characters that have been written about, but never-before-seen on-screen; and a futuristic robot that has replaced humans in the workforce, complete with functional advantages in a particular field. The season will culminate with another visually spectacular and elaborate finale event – an amazing, electronic, nightclub-inspired light show featuring the world-famous DJ Rukso.

Season six of Face Off premieres Tuesday, January 14th at 9/8c on Syfy.
