On the heels of last week’s premiere of The Thanksgiving House,” Hallmark Channel is diving right into Christmas movies with “Countdown to Christmas,” unleashing a whopping dozen new films–two every weekend until the end of the year, and they’ve uncorked their archive of holiday favorites so you can warm your heart for the holidays any time, day or night. This weekend’s Hallmark offerings included new movies and a trove from their family-friendly film library.

Tonight’s new entry, A Very Merry Mix-Up is a nod to Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, While You Were Sleeping, and The Road to Christmas (a sweet movie from a few years back starring real-life husband and wife Clark Gregg and Jennifer Grey). Here’s what to expect: Shop owner Alice Chapman (Alicia Witt) is nervous to meet her future in-laws at Christmas, especially because she is arriving ahead of her new fiancé, Will Mitchum (Scott Gibson). Alice’s trip becomes more stressful when her luggage is lost and her phone is damaged, leaving her no way to find Will’s family! From there, the Christmas holidays take a few unexpected turns.

Over on Lifetime, new and old holiday movies have kicked off under the “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” banner. Last night’s premiere (repeating today at 5 pm/4c) is A Country Christmas Story, a sweet story of an Appalachian girl (newcomer Desiree Ross) who throws her hat into an American Idol-style country music contest at Dollywood hosted by Dolly Parton and potentially reunites her family in the process. It co-stars Mary Kay Place, Rules of Engagement‘s Megyn Price, and Brian McKnight. Here’s a preview:

We’ll highlight more of the new films, and old favorites, throughout the season.
