[Warning: Includes detailed episode summary and preview for finale].

Full disclosure: I haven’t loved every episode of Cedar Cove because it’s sometimes painfully earnest and throws conflict into the mix where none is needed, but it is very, very sweet. And I am glad for all involved that the show is a success for Hallmark Channel, and that it’s already been renewed for a second season. At the end of the day, it’s gorgeously lensed in British Columbia and genuinely family friendly.

Tonight at 8/7c, the first season wraps up (without a prefacing marathon–boooo!) with a holiday-set episode that addresses several threads that have run the course of the first season’s 13 episodes.

The cast has grown from the pilot and fleshed out various storylines and romantic entanglements and become a true ensemble show. We picked up recurring characters Grace (Teryl Rothery) and her potential beau Cliff (Sebastian Spence, who I adore from way back in First Wave), Grace’s daughter, Maryellen (Elyse Levesque), Bob (Bruce Boxleitner) and Peggy (Barbara Niven), who run The Thyme and Tide B&B, and Olivia’s daughter, Justine (Sarah Smyth), and her beau, Seth (Corey Sevier–another longtime TV crush–remember Black Sash?).

Here’s what Hallmark promises in the finale: The Christmas Season has arrived in Cedar Cove and though Jack and Olivia are happy to be reunited, Jack is desperate to talk to his still-missing son Eric about Eric’s impending fatherhood. Meanwhile, Justine is asked to help the FBI make a case against Warren and Grace tries to heat up her relationship with Cliff. Elsewhere, Maryellen manages to track down John and tries to convince him to stop running from his past.

Here’s a sneak peek:
