The Good Wife Season 5 Premiere Preview: “Everything Is Ending” [PHOTOS and VIDEO]
[WARNING: Spoilers for The Good Wife season five premiere]
Everybody rejoice — The Good Wife returns to CBS tonight with an appropriately titled episode called “Everything is Ending.”
Synopsis for “Everything is Ending”: Alicia (Julianna Margulies) must focus on the firm’s efforts to prevent the execution of a convicted murderer while she secretly plans her exit from the firm with Cary (Matt Czuchry), on the fifth season premiere of THE GOOD WIFE. Jeffrey Tambor guest stars as Judge Kluger; Melissa George guest stars as Marilyn, Peter’s ethics counsel; Ben Rappaport guest stars as lawyer Carey Zepps; and renowned defense attorney Barry Scheck guest stars as himself.
What else you need to know:
- Well, not surprisingly, the episode provides an intense, thrill ride of emotions. This show knows how to do that better than anyone.
- Alicia’s dealing with her “I’m in” decision that she made at the end of season four. Will she actually do it? Will she leave with the other four-year associates? There’s one scene that made me so uncomfortable (in a good way) that I had to hit pause and talk myself into letting it play out. A good episode, like this one, will do that to you. Oh, and for the record, I’m so glad I forced myself to watch that scene.
- The first case of the season is a strong one. At the center of it is guest star Malik Yoba (New York Undercover, Arrested Development, Alphas, Revolution), who plays the convicted murderer about to be executed. Yoba is excellent and such a welcome presence. Also, it’s so enjoyable to see Alicia work alongside Diane and Will. It made me hope that Alicia wouldn’t strike out on her own. I can already tell I’m going to have so many feelings regarding Alicia’s exit from Lockhart Gardner.
- Renee Elise Goldsberry’s Geneva Pine gets some quality moments in this premiere. I really wish she were either a series regular on The Good Wife or someone would give her her own show. Goldsberry is so talented and awesome that she deserves to be a lead of a series. Can somebody make that happen if it hasn’t already? Thanks.
- It’s great to see Jeffrey Tambor don a judges’ robe. The veteran actor of The Ropers, The Larry Sanders Show and Arrested Development, manages to be amusing while presiding over such a heavy, dramatic case.
- This show loves to complicate things in a big and bad way. There’s a nice moment that happens between Peter and Eli. But before they get to that moment a decision is made that may come back to bite Peter in the you-know-what. So it’ll be interesting to see how things play out.
OK, I don’t want to give anything else away. Just be sure to tune into the season five premiere of The Good Wife airing on CBS tonight at 9/8c.
