Moment of Goodness: Reese Offers to Help Carter, Person of Interest “Liberty”

One of my favorite relationships on the show – and I basically love all of them – is Carter and Reese. Their evolution since the beginning of the series has been a bit of a slow burn and I’ve really enjoyed every minute of it. At first Carter was pursuing Reese because it was her job and she needed to find out more about this mystery man. And then when they started working together, it seemed like Reese gained Carter’s reluctant respect. Now I don’t think there’s anything she wouldn’t do for him, even if she is keeping secrets. With Carter knocked down to beat cop and the machine “on the loose,” it’s a whole new reality for all the members of the team.

“You know for what it’s worth you look kinda badass in that uniform.”

It was weird to see Carter in her blues, but I loved Reese’s reaction to it. It was also strange to see Carter in civilian clothes so often in one episode. We usually see her in her detective’s uniform – and I’m sure we’ve seen her way from work before – but it represents so much more now. Because of her demotion, Carter now has more time to help the team with the numbers. She’s the one who helps find Salazar both times Reese looses him. And I love it that her military expertise is still such an asset.

Maybe Carter is much more a part of this team than she realizes, because she’s awfully good at keeping secrets. She still hasn’t told anyone about Elias or her role in saving him, and that’s got to be weighing heavily on her. But Elias helps Carter get another vital piece of information in this case so that Reese can save Salazar. Of course it benefits himself in the end, but Elias has always been smart about that kind of thing. Does Elias do anything that doesn’t ultimately benefit him? I doubt it. It’s not until we see Carter at home after Salazar has been saved that we realize how much of a brave front she’s putting on. I was cautiously optimistic when she responded to that squid’s pass in the bar, but now I know she’s still mourning Beecher. And with that “conspiracy” wall hidden in the closet, it’s clear that she’s going to get to the bottom of this one way or another. I hope she lets John and the rest of the team help her with this because there’s no way she can go up against HR and win. Or come out alive.

Bonus Moment of Goodness: Reese tells Salazar to say no to the CIA when they come calling. Reese knows Salazar’s got the smarts and skills to eventually get the attention of Langley. But he knows what they’re capable of and he doesn’t want a good person like Salazar to be used and/or corrupted by them.

Person of Interest airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on CBS.
