Confession: I was not pleased when Castle proposed at the end of last season. Earlier in the episode, he told Beckett that if she took the job in DC it would be the end of their relationship. So when he got down on one knee and proposed, I thought the worst. I thought Castle was reverting back to the man he was before he met Beckett – an immature guy who was only thinking about his own happiness. Of course I should’ve had more faith in him. Of course! Now that it’s clear his intentions were honorable and about nothing more than his love for Beckett, I’m on board with the proposal and their upcoming nuptials. I mean, I still think they need to talk about their feelings a little bit more but I feel like they’re getting there.

There was a lot of love in this episode. Here are my highlights:

Pi not Pie

There’s got to be a lot more to Pi than what we’ve seen so far if Alexis likes him. I think he’s cute, but I don’t necessarily love everything that comes out of his mouth. Mostly, I love that Castle is not a fan.

Ryan and Espo

It would be weird not to have some vestiges of Beckett (and Castle’s) old life in the episode, so I’m really pleased we got to see these two. Not only is Ryan trying to swaddle a fake baby in preparation for the arrival of his real child, but Espo is making fun of him for it. Classic. I like that they get pulled into this case and I love that Espo is the one who figures out Beckett’s case has something to do with a military ghost base. This investigation just gets more and more interesting and complex. They’d better have a hand in solving this mystery.

Castle and Beckett

I can’t believe they hadn’t seen each other in six weeks when Castle decides to show up in DC. Of course, Beckett doesn’t have much time for him and that’s partially why he decides to work this case “with” Beckett, despite her warnings. I love that Castle ends up in federal custody twice and that his meddling (although some would say investigative) mind is what puts him there. He misses working (and spending time) with Beckett and his curiosity about this case does get them some vital pieces of information.

Castle is exposed to a biological agent

After Castle starts doing some research on ghost bases and the Feds show up, he knows he’s gone too far. But the reason they take him into custody is for something much more dangerous. He’s been exposed to the toxin that has killed someone and Beckett tells him he has less than a day to life. Of course we know she’ll find a way to save the man she loves, but what an ending! Talk about being on the very edge of your seat.

What did you think of the season 6 premiere? Was it worth the wait?

Castle airs Mondays at 10/9c on ABC.

I love Castle and as long as this storyline is temporary and she is back at the 12th soon I will go along with it otherwise I will think this is “Jumping the Shark”. I would rather see her get off the NYPD and be a private investigator working with the NYPD than being a Fed. That would free Castle and her to go all sorts of directions. I know they worked Ryan and Esposito into episode but that will only work for awhile. I also missed not seeing Laney.
