It’s that time again people! ABC’s Dancing with the Stars is back with a new cast! Some information and my thoughts of each pairing:
Valerie Harper and Tristan MacManus
An actress who is known for her role as Rhoda Morgenstern on the classic TV sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Diagnosed with terminal brain cancer earlier this year, Harper, 74, has exceeded doctors’ expectations and continues to be optimistic about her prognosis.
My thoughts: I think people will cheer this pairing on because of her circumstances and the fact that she is a television icon. We love Tristan and he seems to have the patience that some of the other male pros do not.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Sasha Farber
Reality TV star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, who made a name for herself on MTV’s Jersey Shore. The new mom, who showed off her recent weight-loss, is also a best-selling author and stars in her own reality show, Snooki & JWoww.
My thoughts: I’m not sure how I feel yet about Snooki on this show. However, I am so happy that Sasha has finally been moved up to the Pros from being in the Troop for the last few seasons! They look good together and apparently she was a cheerleader. This could be a big surprise for all of us!
Keyshawn Johnson and Sharna Burgess
Former NFL Super Bowl champion and three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, Keyshawn Johnson, joined ESPN as an NFL analyst and personality.
My thoughts: Keyshawn has a bit of pressure since football players and athletes in general do well on this show. Sharna did an amazing job with Andy Dick last season and had memorable pro dances that she choreographed. This will be one to watch!
Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani
Actress Leah Remini, who starred for nine seasons on the hit comedy, The King of Queens, has been a television fixture since age 18 with memorable roles on shows like NYPD Blue, Friends, and Saved by the Bell. She was also on the season one panel of CBS’ The Talk.
My thoughts: I think since Leah split with the Church of Scientology it will be interesting to see how this affects her life and dancing. She and Tony were remote from Los Angeles when the cast was announced. I was concerned because she actually looks like she was sick. Tony won the all-star season with Melissa Rycroft, but had been paired with her before. Will this be the first regular season that Tony will get that Mirrorball trophy? Also will there be an issue with Jack Osbourne since there was no love lost between her and his mother Sharon? (Both were on The Talk and Leah was supposedly fired and had words with Sharon Osbourne) We will see.
Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke
TV personality Jack Osbourne, the 27-year-old son of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon, comes to the ballroom to outdo his sister Kelly who had been on the show before. Recently Osbourne announced that he is battling Multiple Sclerosis.
My thoughts: Even though it’s been awhile, Cheryl is a two-time mirrorball winner. The question is: Does Jack have rhythm? If not can Cheryl make a miracle happen? We will see.
Christina Milian and Mark Ballas
Singer/Actress/Correspondent, Christina Milian will compete on the dance floor this season. Currently she is recording her fourth album and was recently on NBC’s The Voice.
My thoughts: Another two-time champ Mark Ballas returns this season. Christina does have some dancing background as an R&B singer. Is she one that will be at an advantage?
Amber Riley and Derek Hough
Most people know Amber Riley is the powerhouse singer, Mercedes from the show Glee. Riley is currently working on her debut solo album.
My thoughts: Amber has an amazing voice but will it translate to the dance floor? It probably helps that Derek Hough; the reigning Pro Champion from last season is her partner! Also he has won a total of four trophies, no pressure!
Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein
TV personality Bill Nye, known to kids simply as his character “The Science Guy.” The mechanical engineer has a passion for science and is writing a new children’s book about energy.
My thoughts: I have a feeling Bill might be in need of some extra help, but then I am assuming he doesn’t have rhythm and anything can happen. He is teamed up with one of the newbie’s, Tyne, so watch out world!
Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Valentin Chmerkovskiy
Actress Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, who began her TV career as Jessie on the hit sitcom, Saved by the Bell and cult classic movie, Showgirls. (I’m so excited! I’m so excited! I’m so scared! – If you get the reference you rule!). The actress is also a New York Times best-selling author for her book Ask Elizabeth, and a new mom.
My thoughts: Elizabeth is paired with Val who has been doing really well for the last two seasons. Elizabeth is another one that has a dance background, so do we think this is fair? She says it’s been a long time since she has danced and never in Ballroom. That’s what they all say, but as always let’s see if she’s got those Showgirl moves still in her.
Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff
Disney star Corbin Bleu, best known for his role as Chad in the High School Musical franchise, who has also starred on Broadway, and currently wrapped up the first season of the resurrected soap opera, One Life to Live.
My thoughts: Karina, has won before and she is a tough little cookie. Again, Corbin has a dance background and seems to be at an advantage. I enjoy him and her so it should be fun to watch!
Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd
Millions of Pretty Little Liars fans know Brant Daugherty as Noel on the hit ABC Family show. I also realized that he played the part of Brian on the soap, Days of Our Lives. He tried to get in between Will and Sonny and I haven’t forgiven him for that. (For those that have read my blogs before I am a serious soap fan!)
My thoughts: I have had the pleasure of interviewing Peta twice and think she’s great! However, I am not sure how I feel about the new partner yet. He has some work to do to win me over. Yeah, soap fans are serious.
Bill Engvall and Emma Slater
Comedian Bill Engvall is best known as a member of the Blue Collar Comedy troupe.
My thoughts: Comedian Bill Engvall is paired up with newbie, Emma Slater, who has been with the troupe for the past couple of seasons. The guy is a comedian so we will be entertained for sure. But how is the guy as a dancer and how is Emma as a teacher? Time will tell.
What do you think of this season’s lineup of stars and pros? How will the show be with one night a week and no results show? We will see what happens.
The season 17 premiere for Dancing with the Stars is Monday, Sept. 16Â at 8/7c on ABC.

Two nights of Arrow + The Flash = what more could we ask for?! I don’t know what it is about blending these shows, but I can’t help but feel that every time they come together, they somehow become greater than the sum of their parts. And that’s saying a lot…

3 Moments of Goodness from Brooklyn Nine-Nine “Johnny and Dora”
The most satisfying part of this season’s finale has to the Jake and Amy kiss. Well, they kiss three times but the last one is the best one — and it means something. The Charles and Rosa dynamic was also great. I love how she’s convinced he doesn’t know anything…
