In May of 2012, something happened to the freshman crime drama Unforgettable that rarely happens on television — it was cancelled by CBS only to be uncancelled and brought back as a summer show.  It’s hard to believe it’s been over a year since those unlikely turn of events, but finally the wait is over and Season 2 premieres tomorrow night on CBS.

Even though Unforgettable was resurrected, it didn’t come without a price.  A huge cast shake-up resulted in several characters not returning for Season 2, including Detectives Mike Costello (Michael Gaston), Roe Sanders (Kevin Rankin), and Nina Inara (Daya Vaidya).  The only series regulars that were promoted to Season 2 were the leads Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery) and Lt. Al Burns (Dylan Walsh).  Also returning will be quirky Medical Examiner Dr. Joanne Webster, played by Jane Curtin.

Several new characters will be introduced, most notably Eliot Delson, played by Dallas Roberts (The Walking Dead and The Good Wife).  Delson is the head of the Major Crimes Unit of Manhattan and recruits Wells and Burns to be on his team.  When Roberts was asked about his new character, he laughed and said, “He’s a badass, a total badass.  I think he’s a visionary. He’s got some political clout in the city and is able to collect the best and the brightest from New York’s finest and assemble them onto his Major Crimes force. That’s how he comes to meet Carrie and Al. And chaos begins immediately.”

Tomorrow night’s premiere is titled “Bigtime” and involves Wells and Burns’ first case as members of Major Crimes.  It is centered around a a high-profile child kidnapping, hits close to home for Carrie, and it leaves her wondering if a move from Queens to Manhattan is what’s best for her.

Welcome back, Unforgettable!  You were sorely missed, and hopefully, this time around you’ll be here to stay.

The Season 2 premiere of Unforgettable airs Sunday night at 9/8c on CBS.
