Moment of Goodness: Allison Threads the Needle, Teen Wolf “Frayed”

One of the definitions of “threading the needle,” is to find a safe path between two opposing forces. Allison isn’t the only one negotiating some treacherous terrain and it’s an apt metaphor for what she and every other person on this show is going through. Allison has vowed to “hang up her bow,” but she’s not doing a very good job of staying out of things. And she and Scott are doing a truly horrible job of staying away from each other. I like it. My moment of goodness is when Allison literally threads the needle. Scott’s dying and it’s the only way she can help.

Have I mentioned how much I love the chemistry between Scott and Allison? I liked them together, but I’m really enjoying them being apart right now. But that’s only really because you can see (maybe even feel) how much they still love each other. They’ve still got something between them no matter how hard they try to fight it. When Scott goes to see Allison and question her about the military grade armor-piercing titanium arrowheads he found at the school, she tries to play dumb…at first. But they both know what she’s been up to. After all, it’s Allison who showed up at the bank vault to help Scott and Derek. And it was Alison (and Mr. Argent) who helped them corral Boyd and Cora. It’s Alison who helps Isaac set a trap for one of the Alpha twins to fall into. And it’s Allison who shows up to cause a distraction after Deucalion orders Derek to kill Boyd. So Allison hasn’t been able to stop helping at all.

But this situation is a little more dire. Scott’s convinced himself that Derek’s “death” is his fault and his mind won’t let his body heal. The injury he sustained from an Alpha has gone from bad to worse; he’s dying. Not only that, but he’s trying to hide it from his friends. Realizing just how serious this situation is becoming, Allison tells Stiles to get the bus off the road. Once they get Scott into the bathroom at the rest stop, Allison has Lydia and Stiles make sure the bus doesn’t leave without them so she can get to work. The only problem? She can’t get the thread through the eye of the needle. And that’s when her mom shows up. Victoria Argent scares me, but I like it when she’s around. She knows exactly what kind of motivation Allison needs. At first it seems like she’s only there to berate her daughter but when Allison is really freaking out, it’s her mom who calms her down enough for her to get the job done.

Interesting developments

  • After Scott challenges an Alpha, his eyes briefly turn red. Even though Deucalion can’t “see,” he feels Scott is slowly living up to his potential.
  • Derek goes to Ms. Blake for help. Awww. I like it.

Teen Wolf airs Mondays at 10/9c on MTV.
