Premature Infatuation: CBS’s The Crazy Ones [VIDEO]

When The CW’s Ringer folded after one season last year, the silver lining was that Sarah Michelle Gellar suddenly had time off to welcome a new baby. Also a silver lining? She’s now getting to go to work on The Crazy Ones, the CBS sitcom that marks the return of Robin Williams to TV (If you overthink it, you realize Gellar was born the year before Mork & Mindy began).

The single-camera comedy (which will NOT shoot in front of a live audience–a drag because that would be a comedy gold taping every week) follows a father/daughter advertising pair who make the best of dad’s unusual management style. It’s the brainchild of David E. Kelley, and also co-stars James Wolk (Lone Star, Political Animals) and Hamish Linklater (The New Adventures of Old Christine).

It’s a sitcom first appearance for SMG, who always built comedy into Buffy and I’m happy to see her take the plunge. I remember Williams telling David Letterman last year how much he’d enjoyed visiting his Dead Poets Society co-star Kurtwood Smith back when he was working on That 70s Show and that he’d love to do TV again so I’m happy for him that the stars aligned.

The Crazy Ones is set to premiere Thursdays as part of the comedy takeover CBS has been attempting on that night. Here’s a sneak peek:
