5 Moments of Goodness from The Big Bang Theory Finale “The Bon Voyage Reaction”

The Big Bang Theory finale was built up over the last couple days with rumors of a big cliffhanger.  When the credits rolled, I wondered if I’d been confused and this wasn’t the finale, because I didn’t see any big cliffhangers.  Realistically, The Big Bang Theory has not been the type of show to leave fans hanging at the end of a season, so this week’s episode was consistent.  Here are my top five moments of goodness.

Goodbye Lucy.  In a fit of social anxiety, Lucy decides that she can’t continue to see Raj.  In recent weeks, I have not been a big fan of the Lucy character.  Raj is awkward – but Raj is not so awkward to warrant giving him a girlfriend who flees out of bathroom windows.  I don’t know if this is the last we’ve seen of Lucy, but I sure hope so.

Raj speaks!  In the fallout of his break-up, Raj does the unthinkable – he speaks to Amy, Bernadette and Penny without the use of alcohol!  It makes sense to have Raj make this change.  We see Raj talk to the girls all of the time, so this just eliminates the need for an unnecessary prop.  Raj has enough other things that make him quirky; it was nice to see him resolve this issue.

Penny and Leonard share the love.  In one of the bigger moments of the season, Penny told Leonard that she loved him.  Since then, we haven’t heard them throwing around the “L” word with each other.  When Penny takes Leonard to the airport for his trip to the North Sea, she tells him in the car that she loves him.  It was such a sweet moment and it was nice to know that there won’t be any drama as to whether a few months apart will threaten their relationship.  It clearly won’t.

Sheldon learns to act.  Sheldon reluctantly admits to Penny that he is jealous of Leonard’s upcoming scientific expedition.  Penny explains to him that part of being a good friend is to lie about being happy for the other person.  Her analogy involves her jealousy over a friend getting a toothpaste commercial and having to say how happy she was for her.   Sheldon comes home and congratulates Leonard, smiles, and tells Penny, “That’s how you get a toothpaste commercial.”

Saddest party ever.  The gang throws Leonard a super sad going away party.  Where were Stuart and Kripke?  Why no Wil Wheaton?  Leonard deserved a better send off than that.

We’ll have a long time to wait until we see if Leonard returns with another caveman beard.  Until then, we’ll just have to look forward to seeing the gang at Comic Con.

The Big Bang Theory is set to return for season seven this fall on CBS.
