Hallmark Channel mixes it up tonight with the U.S. network premiere of Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story, about the hockey legend’s decision to play alongside his sons when most players his age would’ve hung up their skates. Howe is 85 now, and the movie focuses on the period in the early 70s when he joined his sons on the World Hockey Association’s Houston Aeros. (Sidenote: the current incarnation of that team just announced they’re moving to Des Moines.)
An almost unrecognizable Michael Shanks (Stargate SG-1) stars as Gordie, and Katheleen Roberston (Boss) plays his wife, Colleen. The movie was filmed in in Winnipeg so keep your eye out for familiar Canadian faces, and if you’re a hockey fan, familiar players.
Mr. Hockey premieres at 9/8c on Hallmark Channel and repeats throughout the month. Here’s a preview:
