5 Moments of Goodness from The Big Bang Theory “The Contractual Obligation Implementation”

Some have criticized The Big Bang Theory for being sexist, which I have never agreed with.  It’s nerdist.  This week’s moments of goodness are brought to us by the guys’ attempt to ensure gender equality in the sciences and the girls’ retreat to the happiest place on earth.

Encouraging women in science.  To meet their contractual obligations for university committee service, Leonard, Howard and Sheldon take up the cause of women in science.  Sheldon comes up with the brilliant idea to have an outreach program for young girls. Unfortunately, the guys head to Howard’s old middle school to try out their strategy.  Since they are neither cool nor women, it’s unclear how they thought that was going to turn out.
Raj and Lucy hit the books.  It was a super cute idea for Raj to bring Lucy to the library for a quiet, low key date.  They were able to hide their social awkwardness behind text messages, which probably is not that far off from what dating is currently like.  And who doesn’t like a good pun battle?  No seriously.  I love them.

Every girl is a Disney princess – but every girl is not Cinderella.  Bernadette, Amy, and Penny all hit Disneyland and get princess makeovers.  Some might find this offensive and rally against the stereotypes that girls love princesses.  I get that.  But, when Sheldon loops the girls in by phone and Bernadette and Amy give advice while dressed as Cinderella and Snow White, I took it more as girls/women don’t have to be any one thing; they can be super smart and still love a princess costume.  It is a female equivalent of when the guys geeked out in their Star Trek costumes.
Leonard- the new Eminem.  The best moment of the episode was Leonard bemoaning his long lost career as a mean street rap artist, “Like Snoop Dogg with a healthy respect for the police.”  Leonard’s attempt to be hip and cool was hysterical.  It only cemented the long known fact that Leonard is not cool.  Not even close to cool.
Who’s your Prince Charming?  Who would have thought Howard could whip his shirt off so quickly?  You’d think he’d at least get tangled in his dickie.  You’ve got to give Howard credit for having no shame.  Same goes for Leonard.  He saw right past Penny’s motley version of Sleeping Beauty, well, just like most guys would.  As for Sheldon, Amy might want to have tried a Star Trek get-up to lure him in because she’ll be sleeping a long time before she gets that kiss.
The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8/7c on CBS.
