Holiday Movie Preview: Love at the Christmas Table

This is the holiday movie I found completely by accident that turned out to be my favorite newbie this year. Love at the Christmas Table stars Danica McKellar and Dustin Milligan (working a serious John Krasinski vibe) as Kat and Sam, two childhood friends who take a very long time to realize the love of their life has been right there all along.

The framing device is successive Christmas dinners held at the home of E.B. (played by Lea Thompson), the woman who steps in as Kat’s surrogate mom and pines for her own longtime love, Kat’s oblivious dad (played by Scott Patterson). It’s a charming movie that dooesn’t sugarcoat the hard discussions old friends sometimes have to have when they need to work out the kinks. McKellar and Milligan are very good together as we watch Kat and Sam age from 18 to 35 and their relationship changes. Thompson is a treat, too. I liked it a lot.

Love at the Christmas Table airs Monday on Lifetime Movie Network at 6 pm/5c and on Lifetime on Christmas Day at 2 pm/1c.

Update: It’s now available on You Tube, Amazon Prime, and iTunes.
