HBO Preview: The Newsroom [New :60 Trailer]

Remember back in the day when summer TV meant all reruns all the time? Well, it’s certainly not like that anymore. Networks — mainly cable networks — are taking advantage of June, July and August debuting new and returning series that are guaranteed to make the choice between couch and beach a difficult one. Coming up this “hiatus,” HBO is back with Season 5 of its vampiriffic drama True Blood and is also dropping an exciting new show that captures the behind the scenes mayhem that comes with the producing of a nightly news show. It’s called The Newsroom and it stars Jeff Daniels. The synopsis:

From the mind of Aaron Sorkin, creator of The West Wing and screenwriter of The Social Network and Moneyball, comes The Newsroom,  a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make a nightly cable-news program. Focusing on a network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and their boss (Sam Waterston), the series tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles-not to mention their own personal entanglements.

The Newsroom premieres Sunday night, June 24 at 10 p.m. on HBO.
