Moment of Goodness: Stefan Finds Elena in the Liquor Closet, The Vampire Diaries “The End of the Affair”

I’m at war with myself. Part of me wants Elena to stop chasing Stefan because she’s putting herself in so much danger. Klaus thinks she’s dead and that’s the only reason she’s alive right now. So for her own sake, sometimes I want her to take Stefan (and Damon’s) advice and let him go. Part of me wants Elena to take a chance on Damon. We know he loves her and she’s definitely feeling something for him. I know she’s still in love with Stefan but it feels like he’s all but lost to her right now. And Damon is there and we know he’s more than willing. Then something happens that makes me want Elena and Stefan to be together all over again. And in “The End of the Affair” that was Stefan discovering Elena in Chicago in his old hiding place.

I may or may not have watched that particular scene more than once. All those things that Elena and Stefan can’t say are all over their faces. I have to give serious props to both Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley. I thought they played that scene beautifully. My heart may have actually ached for them. It’s these quiet moments – there wasn’t any dialogue and that made it even more beautiful – that make me love this show. And when Stefan does speak, I really did think he was about to give Elena up to Klaus. I was so panicked in that moment and then felt ashamed of myself for doubting Stefan. That moment is one of my favorites between Stefan and Elena from the entire series. I feel like they may never have another moment like that so I’m going to cherish it.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8/7 c on the CW.
