Rewind and Repeat: Sam and Dean and the Final Scene, Supernatural “Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie”

Ever since “Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie” first aired back in February, I’ve been re-watching the final scene of the episode because of the brotherly goodness. On Thursday, March 1, CW again paired up The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural, giving fans another chance to watch the awesomeness that was the end of the “Plucky” hour.I know Sam got his butt kicked by a couple of evil clowns, but I haven’t been able to get enough of his glittered up self, Dean’s reaction, or Sam giving Dean the giant Slinky. My first laugh came when Sam met up with his brother after all the madness was done; and he was looking a mess. He did some sort of hand gesture and said: “Let’s roll.” Dean couldn’t help but laugh. I don’t blame him:

Sam: (with his hands up in the air) “Go ahead. Say it.”
Dean: (laughing) “I’m sor– You look like you got attacked by some PCP-crazed strippers.” (More laughing)
Sam: “Dude, one of ’em sprayed me with seltzer from his flower.”
Dean: (much more laughing ensues)

When is the last time we’ve seen Dean laugh out loud for a lengthy period of time? There has been so much darkness and loss that the Winchesters have been dealing with this season (not to mention in previous seasons) — there haven’t been a lot of opportunities to shoot the s–t or do more than smirk here or there. What I really loved was when Dean was full body laughing and Sam got this curious look on his face. In my world, that look was because he wasn’t used to his brother in full laughing mode. I think he recognized it and liked it. So he let him have his moment. Then Dean apologized for ditching him at Plucky’s when they were young:

Dean: “That’s…Sam, I’m sorry for psychologically scarring you.”
Sam: “Which time?”
Dean: “Shut up. Seriously, you know, me…me…ditching you when we were kids — that was a d–k move. You know the whole clown thing…”
Sam: “You know what man? Honestly? Getting my ass kicked by those juggalos tonight was uh…it was therapeutic.”
Dean: “You faced your fears.”
Sam: “Exactly. And now what else could a clown possibly ever do to me? I feel good.”
Dean: “Well, congrats.”
Sam: “By the way, to celebrate…”
Dean: “What?” (Sam gives Dean the giant Slinky) “No. Did you win this?”
Sam: “We earned that.”

Of course Dean had to counter Sam’s gift with one of his own, a toy clown. Thought it could be a “clown phobia sobriety chip” since Sam faced his fears and won. Kinda. That was such a Dean thing to do. Love how they left the clown in the dust. Of course, it would have been even better if it had been the dust left by the Impala. Just saying.

What I loved most was I was able to bask in the knowledge that Sam and Dean are no longer battling each other (at least for now). It was great to see them have a little fun. It was unexpected yet very welcome. I hope there are more moments like that to come, but I don’t know if there can be with Season 7 winding down and a lot of drama headed our way.  Don’t get me wrong, I love all the drama. But this show is known for being able to let its hair down and have fun too. And that hasn’t happened often enough for me this year. But, no worries. When I need it, I know all I’ll have to do is find this scene and watch it over and over again. Because every time I watch it down, I laugh. It’s one of my favorite moments of this season as far as I’m concerned.

Supernatural returns with new episodes Friday March 16 at 9/8c.
