Moment of Goodness: Ben and Nick’s Awkward Conversation, Jane by Design “The Lookbook”

I wouldn’t exactly say things are going well between Jane and Nick right now, but they’re going. Hopefully that date Nick went on in the last episode won’t go anywhere and he’ll give things with Jane another try. They’re clearly still interested in each other. They’ve clearly got a spark. My favorite moment from “The Lookbook” comes when Ben is talked into believing Jane’s going to get some action when she claims she’s going to Lulu’s for a sleepover. Ben knows who the likely candidate is because he saw Jane and Nick talking earlier. Rita thinks Ben and Jane should have the talk but Ben’s much more interested in putting a stop to it so he goes to have a talk with Nick. So awkward and so awesome.

Ben finds Nick on the pitching mound as Nick’s working on his grip. Ben tries to tell Nick to slow things down by using some baseball metaphors but Nick, of course, has no clue what he’s talking about. My favorite bit of dialogue has got to be:

“Fast ball, straight down the middle. What do you do?”

“Knock it out of the park.”

“No. No no no. You don’t.”

“I don’t?”

“No. Are you following me here?”

“Not really coach.”

“Let’s try this again. Whatever you’re doing tonight if you get a fastball down the middle just swing easy. Very, very easy. Just lightly tap it. Don’t do that. If you accidentally make contact first base only. Nothing more. Do not try to go for second base. Hey, home run? Not an option. You hear me?”

Then when Lulu confirms that Jane will, in fact, be sleeping over (but not really), Ben tells Nick he can ignore everything he just said. Poor Nick. So confusing for him and so funny for us.

Random Thoughts:

  • Billy’s brother Tommy is nothing but trouble. I’m glad Billy decided not to bankroll his brother’s latest get-rich-quick scheme, but we all know it’s only a matter of time before he gets Billy into big trouble.
  • Billy proves, once again, what an amazing best friend he is. When Jane’s freaking out over losing the lookbook he gets a week of detention for his trouble. Seriously, I need a bestie like this. Oh wait, I’ve got one.
  • Jane’s brief – but cute – encounter with the Frenchman who gives her the lookbook back. I love that she launches into an explanation about why she’s not emotionally available, all while he stands there patiently holding her book.

Jane By Design airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC Family.
