Moment of Goodness: Oenomaus Demonstrates That He’s Intimidated by No Man, Spartacus “Fugitivus”

Warning: Slight spoilers from the rest of the season discussed

There’s something about this series that just makes me love it. Here’s what I like about Spartacus: Vengeance so far:

1. The New Spartacus. I loved Andy Whitfield in this role and I think Liam McIntyre proves he’s a worthy sucessor here. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’ll do with this role throughout the rest of the season.

2. Crixus Will Not Be Distracted In His Search for Naevia. Spartacus: Gods of the Arena really made me love Manu Bennett‘s Crixus and learning more of his backstory made him that much more sympathetic. I’m looking forward to seeing how he and Spartacus work together to find Naevia. I hope it’s not too long before they come to her rescue.

3. Lucretia is batsh*t crazy and I love it. Can we just establish that Lucy Lawless is amazing in everything she does? Her character evolution has been something to behold and I look forward to seeing just what losing everything has done to this once proud, noble, and devious woman.

My favorite part of “Fugitivus” is spending some time with Peter Mensah‘s Oenomaus as he opens up a can of whoopass on a group of men who fatally underestimate him.

He’s no longer “Doctore” and he refuses to take up arms and join with the rest of the gladiators to free other slaves and show the Romans the error of their ways. But that doesn’t mean there’s not a price on his head – and a hefty one at that. When Oenomaus is surrounded in the early morning streets of Capua, at first we think the men are after money. But soon the men threaten his his freedom and put his life in jeopardy with their talk of Batiatus and traitorous behavior. But Oenomaus proves once again why he was once a champion in the arena and makes quick (and somewhat bloody, obviously) work of his would-be captors. If this season of Spartacus is to stay more true to history, it’s only a matter of time before Oenomaus joins his fellow gladiators in the rebellion. I’d like to see him fight amongst them but something drastic would have to happen to make him join their side. With Glaber on the scene and taking charge I think that might be sooner rather than later. Either way I can’t wait for him to have a reckoning with Gannicus when they meet later this season. It’s gonna be good.

Sparatcus: Vengeance airs Fridays at 10/9c on Starz.
