Tina’s 2011 TV Goodness All-Stars: Once Upon a Time’s Lana Parrilla

Even though Lana Parrilla is an actress who has been around for a while having had roles in Swingtown, Miami Medical and 24, she’s pretty much new to me. So let me tell you that when I started watching ABC’s Once Upon a Time, I was completely blown away by her portrayal of Regina/Evil Queen.  Parrilla is just the force of nature to be playing such a pivotal role. As the show’s main villain, Regina is fierce and badass with a hint of vulnerability. Her scenes with Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) are among my favorites of the entire series. I can’t believe Regina says what she says and does what she does. And I can’t quite figure out if she really loves Henry or she just knows Henry’s the key to something big because her parental skills are hardcore and not in a good way. The Mayor holds the secret of two worlds — Fairy Tale Land and Storybrooke — and she’s going to do anything and everything to prevent anyone from remembering the way their lives used to be.

Regina’s cruel but there’s a reason for it. Can’t wait to find out more about the Evil Queen’s past and why she’s making everyone pay for what she’s lost. She enjoys people’s suffering. She’s a controlling manipulative you-know-what. Yet, I must admit I’m loving every bit of her revenging and every bit of her tactics to keep everyone in the dark.

Regina/Evil Queen instantly became one of the best villains on TV today when Once Upon a Time premiered back in October. I look forward to seeing how else she’s going to keep Snow White and Prince Charming apart; how else she’s going to insult Emma and make her a life a living hell; and what kind of machinations will require her to rely on the shady talents of Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle). Lana Parrilla plays the wicked witch with fire and fury. It’s a pleasure to watch all that evil unfold.

Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 8/7c on ABC. Catch the mid-season finale “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” tonight.
