Speculate This: Agent Lee, Fringe “Novation”

Warning: Spoilers from “Novation” discussed

While I have mixed feelings about this latest Fringe, I enjoyed many of the revelations including the fact that in this new timeline, Olivia grew up living with Nina Sharp. There has always been speculation regarding Olivia’s connection with Nina in the Fringe fandom. It’s great to see that in this orange universe, Nina and Olivia actually do have some sort of familial connection. A couple of things that happened at the end of the episode really got me thinking. First, a clerk gave Olivia some files not once but twice. It really threw Olivia off and has me wondering if she’s either losing time or the Fringe division operator is a shapeshifter.

And then there’s Agent Lee. I’m a little concerned about his behavior in that last scene. Lincoln seemed very distracted and dismissive of Olivia’s invitation for dinner, don’t you guys think? That’s odd considering in the recent past he had offered to spend more time with Olivia. My wild speculation is that Lincoln Lee may be one of the shapeshifters that “Novation” featured. With Peter’s help, Fringe figured out these creatures are virtually undetectable, which makes them a million times more dangerous than ever before. I don’t want Lincoln to go the way of Charlie. I hope there’s another explanation for Lincoln’s strange behavior.

I can’t wait to see how this season unfolds. It’s clear there is continued opposition from the other side. The alternate universe seems more malevolent than before. Is there a higher threat from “over there” and is that why Peter has returned? And how will these shapeshifters factor into it all?

Fringe airs Fridays on FOX at 9/8c.
