Ok, “get in on” isn’t technically correct, but I perked right up when they started kissing. I wouldn’t have minded if things went a bit further. I’m just saying. Any time Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder lock lips on The Vampire Diaries, it’s pretty hot. This kiss makes it into my Damon/Elena/Katherine kiss hall of fame. In fact, it’s in the top three (more on that later). I mean, it was so smolderhalder I may have rewound and repeated the moment more than once.
Why do you think Katherine wanted to kiss him? Why did Damon kiss her back? Ultimately I think that kiss was about Katherine trying to control Damon and Damon reminding her that she can’t anymore. Do I believe Damon when he says Katherine no longer interests him? Kind of. I know he’s in love with Elena but he can be his true self around Katherine and that’s a big deal for him. Minor detail:Â How the heck did Damon maintain control of that car while he kissed Katherine? He seemed pretty into it for a few seconds. But I’m getting my head back in the game and back on kissing. It was a great moment and kind of makes me want to see Damon kiss Elena for real. What other kisses make it into my top three Damon/Elena/Katherine (AKAÂ Delerine?) moments? Let’s count down.
Number Three:Â Elena kisses Damon on his death bed in “As I Lay Dying”
I had never been a Delena fan until that moment. Yes, Damon was dying and maybe part of what Elena did was out of pity. Or not. It was sweet and it meant something. Maybe that kiss was the beginning of Elena’s journey to admit she feels something for Damon. I know she’s scared to talk about it right now because of what it means (and because she still loves Stefan) but we all know she has feelings for him. She should really stop denying that she does.
Number Two: Katherine kisses Damon in the car in “The Reckoning”
The only reason I’m ranking tonight’s kiss over the sweet Delena kiss is for sheer hotness. Katherine’s into it, Damon’s briefly into it. I was seriously into it. But I loved that moment even more when Damon pushed her away. I’m never that happy when we see Katherine (I’m not a huge fan) but I know she has a purpose. And if that’s to help get rid of Klaus permanently, I guess I can get on board with that. My only problem is I’m starting to like Klaus even though he’s been kinda horrible. That vulnerability we saw from him in “The Reckoning” isn’t helping matters either.
Number One: Damon kisses Elena on her porch (but later discovers it was Katherine) in “Founder’s Day”
I think my heart may have skipped a beat when I originally watched that episode. Not only did Damon think he was kissing Elena, but so did we, the audience. I felt so betrayed and angry, but I couldn’t deny their chemistry. In some ways I was happy to realize Damon had been duped by Katherine. In other ways, I felt bad for him. Damon kind of put his heart out there and got it crushed. Sometimes I don’t think he deserves to be loved by anyone, but I find myself changing my opinion about that constantly. Especially lately.
Those are my top three. What are your favorites and why?
The Vampire Diaries airs at 8/7 c on the CW.
