We Need to Know: Where are the Supercouples on the CW’s 90210?

I just caught up on the last two weeks of the CW’s 90210. I’m digging the Naomi coup d’etat of the Geek Greek sorority who’s about to rage revenge on the rich bitch sorority that Annie joined and rejected Naomi. I’m also missing Teddy. So far, he’s only been in the premiere.

While I was watching, I started looking at all the couples on the show. Annie and Liam called it quits, although he’s already sleeping with someone he met in Alaska over the summer. Silver and Navid are together but are kind of boring since they’re playing parent to his little sister and running a business. Naomi’s flirting with the guy who sold her that huge mansion of hers; Ivy and Raj are cute but aren’t showcased enough. Dixon has no one; Teddy’s missing-in-action; and Adrianna is still skirting the line between sanity and crazy town as far as I’m concerned.

Where is the new 90210 version of Brenda and Dylan, Kelly and Dylan or even David and Donna? As I figure it, this show has never had that successful supercouple you want to root for. I know it’s not from lack of trying. The producers/writers have tried to create a viable couple but always come up short. The one that’s come the closest was Naomi and Liam but the chemistry wasn’t right. Other than that, I’m at a loss. The only couple I’ve really liked recently is Naomi and Max the geek from last season. I liked Dixon and Silver as well as Dixon and Ivy but those pairings fizzled. Navid and Adrianna had potential but they weighed that relationship down with too much baggage and then sent Adrianna to the land of the rich and the coo coo for Coco Puffs. I think Teddy had a chance but the actor who played his love interest left the show pretty quickly.

90210 entertains me but I can never say I’m completely hooked because there isn’t that couple that draws me in on a weekly basis. Every soap opera needs one. This is the fourth season and still nothing. No exciting, deep, it’s us against them kind of love exists on this show. Is there even one with a catchy supercouple nickname? I truly hope the powers-that-be can find one and stick with them through thick and thin.

90210 airs Tuesdays at 8/7C on the CW.
