Guest Star Goodness: Revenge “Trust”

When I first heard the synopsis for Revenge I didn’t think I’d be interested. I love Emily VanCamp but when I was planning out my Fall TV schedule (yes, I’m a total TV nerd) this show wasn’t on it. But the buzz started building and a few friends saw the pilot and told me how much they liked it. So I decided to see the pilot myself at the Paley Center’s Fall TV preview night for ABC. And I couldn’t believe how much I liked it. I think it’s a great nighttime soap with just the right mix of hot guys, fiesty females, and beautiful locations. I love the theme of the show and I genuinely hope Emily Thorne gets closure for herself and justice for her father. I’m really enjoying how the show’s unfolding so far and it’s been fun to see some familiar faces as guest stars in this intriguing family saga.

I love when Max Martini plays the villain or not-so-good guy. You may recognize him from the season 3 finale of Castle or a recent episode of Criminal Minds. In “Trust,” he plays Frank Stevens, the head of Conrad Grayson’s security. Although he’s head of her husband’s security team Victoria uses him for her own nefarious means. She seems surprised but not hurt that Frank didn’t tell her about Conrad’s affair with Lydia. So when Victoria asks him to dig into Emily Thorne’s past, it’s nothing new to Frank. In fact, it seems like he knows where all the bodies are buried with this family and he’s been called on more than once to clean up their messes. He doesn’t find much on Emily Thorne at first, but soon discovers that Emily has sealed court records. Victoria thinks she’s found her smoking gun but we know that Emily Thorne doesn’t scare easily.

Matthew Glave also guested in “Trust.” You may recognize him from The Closer or Desperate Housewives. I also like to see him playing someone devious, which he does here. As Bill Harmon he’s a dirty hedge fund manager who makes his fortune from insider information. He sells his loyalty and friendship to the highest bidder when he’s in a bind and Emily’s father paid the price all those years ago. Emily Thorne sees her opportunity to make Bill pay and she takes it. He’s ruined and Emily Thorne gets to give him the big red x.

Yancey Arias

And an attorney from the 1995 case against her father was played by actor Yancey Arias. Yancey has been seen in Warehouse 13, Covert Affairs, CSI: NY, NCIS: Los Angeles, Burn Notice, Drop Dead Diva and Numb3rs. Wonder if Arias will be popping up again this season. We know how Emily likes to target people who were against her dad.

I’m looking forward to seeing who Emily Throne sets her sights on next week. I have to say, though, that part of me hopes the relationship she’s embarking on with Daniel is real. If it doesn’t start out that way, I hope it develops into something real. I know how it ends (or how we’re supposed to think it ends), but I’m worried that if Emily Thorne doesn’t allow herself to feel anything she’ll turn into the person she hates the most: Victoria. Now that would be a tragedy.

Revenge airs on Wednesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
