Fall TV Crush: Luther’s Idris Elba

Warning: Slight spoilers discussed.

Idris Elba is back with Season 2 of Luther and we can rejoice because over in Great Britain, the series has already received an order for a third season. So, that means there’s plenty more Idris to come and we’re more than a little excited about it. Nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of such a conflicted and complicated man, we’re concerned about what DCI John Luther has to contend with this season. How can the writers/actors make this season as good or better than the first? His wife Zoe is dead. His close friend and ex-colleague Ian Reed is dead. Alice Morgan is in a mental hospital but still obessed with him. His career can’t be in a good place. Despite all that, we would still want Luther on the police force because we know he’ll do anything and everything to get the job done.

The man is the very definition of intense; he’s mesmerizing to watch because he clearly commits a hundred percent to playing whatever role’s on his plate. In this case, he completely inhabits his screwed up cop character, John Luther. Elba is charismatic, devastatingly handsome and deliciously sexy. We also like tall, muscular men and he’s got that in spades. There’s just something in those eyes that makes us think he’d be exciting and engaging to be around. He’s a force of nature you just can’t take your eyes off of – Idris is the total package. And then some.

Season 2 of Luther airs Wednesdays at 10/9C on BBC America.
