We Need to Know: Why Are the Judges Still Deciding Who Goes Home on SYTYCD?

I’m trying to remember how things were two seasons ago. Since the All-Stars were introduced for the first time last season and we had a Top 10 earlier, things were different. I seem to remember that when we got to the Top 10 two season ago it was America who decided who went home and not the judges. Am I wrong?

At some point – and I had hoped that would be tonight – this competition has got to be about choosing America’s favorite dancer. And in order to do that the judges need to stop making those decisions for us. Don’t get me wrong: I love the judges. I think most of the guest judges have been great and I was especially impressed with Neil Patrick Harris. I really got a lot out of his critiques. But I don’t want or need the judges to decide who goes home anymore. Even if I don’t agree with who gets voted off, I respect the process. I love hearing the judges critiques every week and sometimes I take their opinions into consideration when voting. But now I’d like their guiding hand to fall away. It’s time to take the training wheels off and let us decide for ourselves. Hopefully this new trend is over with tonight’s results show. If it isn’t, we’re going to have a much bigger problem.
