Summer TV Crush: Noah Wylie and Drew Roy, Falling Skies

I remember when I first saw the previews for Falling Skies. I thought it looked great but I think that was mostly because I saw the name Steven Spielberg flash across the screen along with some sci-fi scenes. That was enough to pique my interest. Then I heard Noah Wylie was in it, and that made me want to see it even more. I don’t know that I’m a huge fan of post-apocalyptic anything (movies, TV shows, books) but I’m excited to see how this small band of humans survives.

I was a big fan of ER for a long time. I didn’t watch it so much at the end but before that I loved it. Noah Wylie’s Dr. John Carter was a major reason the show was must see TV for a long time. I managed to catch one installment of The Librarian franchise and I really liked him on that as well. Not sure why I didn’t see them all though…. I guess he found TNT to be a good fit because he returns to the network in Falling Skies. I don’t know if I’d say Noah Wylie’s playing against type as the leader of this renegrade group of humans, but it’s a slightly different type of role and I like that. He’s still the intellectual, but he’s also leading a group of rebels. I like where this is going and I’m excited he’s back on series TV.

Drew Roy is new to me but you might recognize him from Greek, Lincoln Heights, or iCarly. Here he plays Tom Mason’s oldest son who’s coming into his own as a resistance fighter. I wonder what dad thinks about that and if it’s going to cause some family tension. I hope so.

Falling Skies airs Sundays at 9/8 c on TNT.
