Relationship Recap: Jarek Breaks Up With His Fiancee, The Chicago Code “Black Sox”

I know life is complicated. And I know sometimes your parents (or friends or lovers) don’t turn out to be the people you thought they were. But I’ve had a problem with Jarek cheating on fiancee for quite some time now. He’s such a great cop and good mentor (when he can hold on to a partner for more than a day). So I guess his personal life is the one place he doesn’t have his shit together. I get it but I don’t like it. In this episode he decides to make his choice. He wants his ex-wife Dina to take him back. The only thing is, she doesn’t want him back. When he gets home, Jarek decides to break up with his fiancee and he’s brutally honest with her. Even he knows Elena’s better for him but that doesn’t stop him from ending things with her.

Part of me is glad Jarek has stopped lying to himself and to the two most important women in his life. Whatever his reasons for going back to dina were, even he knew they weren’t healthy ones. Family is important to him but he keeps screwing it up. He’s in a good place with his son and wife, kind of. He was in a great place with his fiancee and his niece. Or, at least he was before last week’s episode. Let’s start with the bit of truth that set the house of cards tumbling down. Vonda learns her father was having an affair after she recieves his watch on the anniversary of his death. His watch had been missing since he was murdered so Vonda found it strange that someone would chose to send it to her on that day of all days. She tracks the woman down and quickly finds out she was her father’s mistress. Actually, she was more than that. Her father was going to marry this woman. But Jarek kept all of this from Vonda because he wanted her to remember the best version of her father. The problem with that? She didn’t know her father at all. He was never around. And Vonda would prefer to know the real man anyway.

All that leads Jarek to realize he needs to decide what kind of man he wants to be. So he makes some decisions in his person life. He’s sleeping with his ex-wife while he’s planning his wedding. That’s really not a good position to be in so he decides to lay it all on the line and tell Dina he wants to be with her. Maybe he’s jealous that she’s dating or maybe he really thinks he made a mistake in divorcing her. Either way, he makes his choice. But Dina’s not interested. She doesn’t think they belong together and she tells him that. But Jarek isn’t done yet. He goes home and can’t bring himself to talk to Elena about the wedding. In fact, he tells her there won’t be a wedding. He admits he’s been cheating with his ex. Elena knows she’s better for him but Jarek’s determined to break things off. Elena says something very perpective: Jarek can’t let anyone close and he can’t to be alone. He’s so afraid of being alone, he’s with two women at the same time. And now he has no one. I’m hoping this doesn’t start him on some sort of downward spiral.

I’m glad Jarek’s trying to clean up his messy personal life. Maybe he needs to work on himself before he gets into another relationship. I’m not holding my breath but I’m hoping he doesn’t get back into the dating game until he’s sure about what he wants. I would like him to find some happiness but he’s looking all the wrong the places.

Random: I can’t be the only one who kind of wants to see him with Teresa Colvin, right? I love their chemistry…
