Moment of Goodness: Jonathan Kent at Clark’s Wedding, Smallville “Finale”

I intended to partake of Smallville’s last episode as a casual viewer of yore, enjoying the finale for nostalgia’s sake, but I’m a big ‘ol capital S Sap when it comes to John Schneider as Jonathan Kent, and when he came into view behind Annette O’ Toole’s Martha as Clark walked down the aisle with Lois, I lost it. Complete snotty mess.

I loved every moment. Especially because the sight of him made Clark catch his breath and Lois recognized the hesitation. I loved that you weren’t quite sure whether Martha actually saw Jonathan the way Clark did. I’m going with yes. I loved that Clark became a boy again when he opened his heart to the memory of his dad. The paternal kiss on the forehead as Jonathan released Clark to follow his path and Clark’s group hug with Martha and Jonathan in the barn were perfect.

So, so, SO glad he and Annette, Michael Rosenbaum, John Glover, and Aaron Ashmore (who was in the opening credits but who we had to wait to arrive until almost the last actual minute ever) made it for the finale.  I know there was no place for Lana anymore, but it’s a shame that Kristin Kreuk wasn’t involved somehow. We did get clips of her in both Clark’s and Lex’s montages, so there was that.

Ten years, y’all. Quite the ride. Thanks, everybody. Good luck on whatever you do next!
