It Was So Good To See You (Week of April 25th)

There weren’t quite as many familiar faces on TV this past week, but the ones that did pop up on some of my favorite shows were pretty terrific.

Ned Vaughn

Let’s start with actor Ned Vaughn appearing in the April 25 episode of The Event as the primary doctor treating the President (Blair Underwood). Ned is best known for his recurring role in China Beach, but he has a long resume of TV and movie work, including the short-lived shows Cane and Commander In Chief as well as guest appearances in JAG, 24, Cold Case, NCIS, Mad Men, Desperate Housewives, Bones and The Mentalist. His movie roles include Courage Under Fire, Frost/Nixon, Apollo 13 and The Hunt for Red October.

Kathleen Quinlan

Then over on Glee on April 26, well-known actress Kathleen Quinlan appeared as the “shrink” who is trying to treat Emma (Jayma Mays) with her OCD. She has a very long resume dating back to the early 1970’s, starting with a role in the legendary film American Graffiti. She appeared in the TV series Family Law in the early 90’s and was seen in Prison Break. Among her other movie roles were Apollo 13, Made of Honor, The Hills Have Eyes and Event Horizon.

That same night over on Body of Proof, actress Joanna Cassidy appeared as Dr. Megan Hunt’s (Dana Delany) mother. Joanna starred in the cult classic film Blade Runner, but has appeared in Falcon Crest, the comedy Buffalo Bill, the short-lived series Hotel Malibu, the original Melrose Place, Diagnosis Murder and was seen more recently in Six Feet Under, Boston Legal and HawthoRNe.

Lastly, over on the CW on April 29, actor Callum Blue made a re-appearance on Smallville playing Zod in an episode where Clark (Tom Welling) and Oliver (Justin Hartley) travelled to the Phantom Zone to discover how someone from the Zone was able to return to Earth. Callum, of course, was a series regular last season but has also appeared in the TV series Dead Like Me, The Tudors, Secret Diary of a Call Girl and the short-lived show Related. He has also appeared in Sanctuary, The Sarah Jane Adventures and the box office movie The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.

Also that night saw the return of actress Amber Benson in Supernatural, returning as the vampire Lenore. Amber is best known for her role of Tara in Buffy the Vampire Slayer but has also appeared in Cold Case, Private Practice and Grey’s Anatomy.

With season finales coming up very soon, it will be quite interesting to see what familiar faces will show up in my favorite shows
