Top 3 Moments of Goodness from The Vampire Diaries, “The Last Day”

I don’t think I have watched a show this fast-paced ever. And this Speedy Gonzalez way of telling a story has been going on all season long with hardly any disruption of momentum. And you know what? I’ve loved every second of it. In “The Last Day” there were so many things that happened. I’m really struggling with shining the light on just one scene because so much of it was beyond good. I ended up narrowing it all down to my top 3 Moments of Goodness…  –Matt saves Damon. Earlier in the episode, Matt was talking to Caroline’s mom. You could tell his anger towards Caroline had dissipated. She could too because she pretty much released him from their secret machinations. As for Damon, he and his partner-in-crime, Alaric, were trying to outwit Klaus. That involved getting the whereabouts of a kidnapped Caroline and Tyler from Katherine. When Damon neared the vicinity, he encountered Klaus’ wizard who quickly had Damon at a disadvantage. Suddenly, a shot rang out and ding dong the wicked wizard was dead. I fully thought we were going to see Alaric behind that gun. But he wasn’t, it was Matt!!!! I couldn’t believe it and I was so happy. He was coming to Caroline’s rescue. He ended up saving Damon. And now he not only knows about all the vampires in town; he also knows Tyler’s a werewolf. I’m just a big fan of him knowing everything and not freaking out like he originally did.I just hope he’s not going to be one of the ones to die by the end of the season. That’s one of my biggest fears.

Jenna gets turned. That Klaus is so deliciously devious, isn’t he? And he actually did something I didn’t see coming. He talked about having backup plans. I wasn’t surprised he had Jules in his back pocket, especially after losing Tyler. In fact, I rather she be the one that was needed for the ritual. Tyler needs to be safe. The budding were-pire also lost a vamp. I thought for sure it was going to be Damon since he was right there and he was pretty much willing to die for the cause, right? Wrong. Because earlier, when Tyler turned in the woods, he jumped on Damon and ended up biting him. So, Damon’s suddenly unappealing to Klaus. We know what happened to Rose once she was bitten. Don’t think the same fate will befall Damon, but he’s in for a lot of pain. As for Klaus, he was in need of a vampire. When you’ve got lemons, why not make lemonade? So in order to fulfill the ritual and get all the ingredients needed, Jenna was turned. OMFG. I just did not see that coming. I had no idea this show would turn Elena’s aunt. Amazing.

Elena admits she doesn’t want to be a vampire. Now, I haven’t been completely on board with Elena’s martyr act. It’s very true to character, but it’s just slightly annoying. Having said that, I understand where she’s coming from. She doesn’t want anybody to get hurt because of her but I truly believe she needs to accept help from others and not take this on by herself like she’s been wanting to do. However, when Damon force fed her his blood because he knew that the second she died in the ritual, she would actually “live” because she’d be a vampire, I felt truly sorry for her. I wasn’t sure how’d she react. Because she loves Stefan and this way she and Stefan, if they wanted, could live eternity together. But when they were up on the top of that mountain, Stefan got her to admit what she was really feeling: she does not want to become a vampire:

“I know that I love you Stefan. I know that. But my future, our lives together? Those were things I was supposed to deal with as they came along. I was supposed to grow up; decide if I want to have kids and start a family; grow old. I was supposed to have a lifetime of those choices and now…it’s all gone.”

I personally think she would have probably changed her mind eventually, but it would have been her choice. I also understand where Damon was coming from, but his methods leave something to be desired. Here’s the question of the moment: Will this ritual go far enough that Elena will die and be reborn? Can’t wait to find out.
