Guest Star Goodness: The Chicago Code “The Gold Coin Kid”

I didn’t really miss Billy Lush’s Liam Hennessey or Delroy Lindo’s Ronin Gibbons tonight because we had some great guest stars. I’m not saying we should make it a regular thing because I really like where each of their storylines are going and (Spoiler Alert) how they’re about to intersect. But it’s nice to see some familiar faces grace us with their presence on the small screen.

Steven Culp

Steven Culp. The mayor’s chief of staff. Colvin isn’t letting him get off easy after the mayor breaks a campaign promise. All he wants is for Colvin to call her dogs off. But we all know how Jarek can get.

Why doesn’t this man have his own TV show? I can understand him keeping his schedule clear for movies, but I see his recent past littered (in a good way) with guest star gigs. Recently he’s been on The Defenders, Desperate Housewives, Burn Notice, and The Ghost Whisperer. And that’s just recently. You might also recognize him from Saving Grace, The Mentalist, Traveler, The West Wing, or JAG. So, dear producer and/or writer. Please write something for this extremely talented man. He deserves his own show.

Tom Irwin

Tom Irwin. He’s a grieving father, then he’s a fat cat donor to the mayor’s campaign who thinks he can get away with anything. He turns Taylor into a liar and a black card girl, but the long arm of the law gets him in the end. Well, nothing will stick but at least his wife will know about his extra-curriculars.

I had no idea he’s worked so much since My So-Called Life. I was going to say it was nice to see him play against type, but I have no idea if that’s true or not. It is if we only take My So-Called Life into consideration, but he’s had a lot of work since then. You might recognize him from The Outer Limits, Fraiser, Angel, Numbers, Related, or Grey’s Anatomy. I had no idea but I ‘m so glad he’s got a steady gig. I was sympathetic then creeped out by him tonight. Great job.

Stacy Haiduk

Stacy Haiduk. The madam. She’s only in two scenes but she makes quite the impression. I’m glad she couldn’t talk Jarek into making a deal. I can’t ever imagine him taking a bribe or looking the other way, but it is reassuring to see him dismiss her pleas so quickly.

I remember her quite vividly from a few episodes of Southland but she’s probably most recognizable to soap fans that know her from Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless, or All My Children. More recently – and in primetime – she’s also done an arc on Prison Break and guested on shows like CSI: Miami, ER, and The Division.

Great work. I hope we’re gifted with some more great guest stars soon.
