Deja View: Being Human’s Sam Huntington

In the past we’ve only used Deja View to talk about guest stars or characters with minor recurring status. We’re upgrading this topic so we can discuss Sam Hungtington. We like him on Being Human and since we’re not caught up on the US version of this show, we’ll take this opportunity to school you on where you’ve seen him before. Sam Huntington, this is (mostly) your TV life.

I don’t really remember him from the small screen. I actually recognize him as Jimmy Olsen from Superman Returns. I personally loved Bryan Singer’s vision but I can’t be too mad at the reboot. I’m a huge fan of Zach Synder (for 300 not for Watchmen), Christopher Nolan, Diane Lane, and Henry Cavill. But back to Sam. If you don’t recognize him from that movie, you might recognize him from Detroit Rock City, Not Another Teen Movie or Fanboys. Or you might not.

On the small screen he’s guested on Law & Order, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Veronica Mars, and Human Target. Being Human looks to be his breakout role and I, for one, love him in this show. I’ve never watched the original UK version so I don’t listen to the comparisons. I just judge based on what I’ve watched of the US version. And I’ve watched the first three episodes. I find Sam Huntington’s Josh to be a slightly pathetic (but oh so lovable) loser who can’t get his life on track. He’s cursed by the moon and he’s kind of helpless in his personal life. He used to have a fiancée but he had to break up with her for obvious reasons. He finally feels like he belongs somewhere even though he sees himself as a monster.  There isn’t much I don’t like about Josh or Sam’s portrayal of him. I think he’s the heart of the show and I want to see him happy and I’d love to see him reconcile with her sister. I’m not holding my breath, but I think he can make a life for himself.  He’ll have those days every month where he’ll have to lock himself away (and don’t we all have those), but I think he can live a kinda normal life. Be kinda human.
