We Need To Know: Why isn’t Brian Dietzen a Series Regular on NCIS?

The number one most-watched scripted TV show has been the CBS procedural NCIS for a number of years now; and since the second season, Jimmy Palmer (actor Brian Dietzen) has worked as an assistant to Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum). But, despite his appearing in 91 out of 186 episodes of the long-running series, Brian has not once been promoted to series regular.

And because of that, we here at TV Goodness want to know why he is still relegated to guest-starring status, especially after being part of the show for almost seven years. What is the hold up? Doesn’t Brian deserve to be a series regular?

Or, are there other reasons for the overdue credit? Perhaps, Brian prefers being a recurring character, allowing him more freedom to work on other projects as well as appearing on the show. Maybe the network feels the core cast members is all they need.

But, to the fans, Jimmy (aka Brian) is an important part of NCIS; just as important as Ducky, Ziva, McGee, Abby, Tony and Gibbs. The show is assuredly going to be around for at least a few more seasons; it is our hope that perhaps in that time Jimmy will be made a regular member of the cast.
