Character Development: Director Leon Vance, NCIS “Recruited”

In “Recruited,” NCIS Director Leon Vance finally made an appearance; we haven’t seen him since the episode “Enemies Domestic” that aired back in November. Really, he’s only missed a couple of shows, but it seems longer. And while he’s back from sick leave, by no means is he 100 percent well. He’s walking with a cane; he showed us the mean scar he has on his stomach; Gibbs asked him if he needed to take some more time off; and he talked about being on painkillers. He certainly didn’t seem happy to see all that paperwork piled up on his desk. Was Gibbs supposed to be the Director in charge while Vance was out sick? If he was, Gibbs did no such thing. I wonder how far they’re going to take this injured Vance story. According to him, Sec Nav keeps calling; things seem to be in even more disorder than they were before enemies domestic and foreign caused trouble. I’m thinking something is going to come up again. Just not sure what. Just not sure when. Good to see Rocky Carroll back in action, however. I enjoy the scenes he has with Mark Harmon. Plus, I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. I love how Mark Harmon says the names of various characters on NCIS. This time, he gave “Director Vance” the Gibbsian treatment. Watch it again. Here’s the line: “You too, Director…Vance…” Wasn’t that awesome?
