Deja View: Tamsin Greig from Episodes

Tamsin Greig

Tamsin Greig is a breath of fresh air on Episodes. In fact, I think she acts how a lot of people would like to act if they had their druthers. Yes, I said druthers. It feels very British to me for some reason. But back to Tamsin. She tells it like she sees it and calls people on their crap. So refreshing, especially in Hollywood.

If she looks a little familiar to you, you’re probably some sort of Anglophile. I recognize her from Emma. And before you ask, yes I have seen every BBC adaptation of every Jane Austen book they’ve ever done. Well, that might be overstating it but clearly I like Jane Austen. Tamsin played Miss Bates and, in my opinion, somehow made Miss Bates seem less annoying. More recently she was in Stephen Frears’ Tamara Drewe on the big screen. She played Beth Hardiment, who runs an artists retreat in the English countryside with her best-selling (and big-time cheating) husband. She finally stands up for herself and begins a relationship with an American who appreciates her. It’s a great little film.

She’s also appeared on the small screen as Edith Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank, Alice Chenery in Love Soup, Dr. Caroline Todd in Green Wing, and Fran in Black Books. I haven’t seen any of these shows but I like her enough to seek them out. I wonder if they’re on Netflix….
