TV Goodness All-Star 2010: Matt Smith, Doctor Who

I have to admit that I’m very new to the Doctor Who universe. I started watching with the 9th Doctor, played by Christopher Eccelston, and then the 10th Doctor, David Tennant. I truly enjoyed Tennant’s performance as the Doctor, but as we all know, he left the show. I wasn’t sure how the transition was going to go since the British sci-fi drama was not only getting a new incarnation in the form of Matt Smith, it was also getting a new showrunner in Steven Moffat. Thankfully, there was no need to worry. They definitely haven’t disappointed with the most recent reboot of the series. Matt Smith assumed his version of the Doctor from the moment the transformation was complete. He is a new, much younger Doctor, who seems to be more innocent on the surface. One episode features him living with a couple and displaying some of his naivete about relationships and courtship. Smith’s portrayal of his Doctor brings some levity and a zest for exploration that is infectious. The episodes featuring his interactions with Amy Pond (the fabulous and gorgeous Karen Gillan), have been at times thrilling and at other times devastating. It’s been quite the ride for Smith’s first turn as Doctor Who. The show is set to return for more installments this spring. Can’t wait.
