TV Goodness All-Star 2010: Gail Simmons, Top Chef and Top Chef: Just Desserts

Gail Simmons

I watch a lot of TV. There are shows I’m fanatical about and personalities I all but worship. My final pick is Gail Simmons.

Part of me finds it hard to believe that I’ve chosen a non-actor as an all-star. Not only did I never really get or appreciate the whole reality television thing, but it still perplexes me. I view Top Chef(in all it’s iterations) as a competition show. I assume that the vetting process is quite rigorous and that all the cheftestants have the skills and knowledge to be on the show. Having said that, I also find it highly entertaining. If there was some way the at-home audience could also taste the food, it would be the best show ever.

Now I haven’t watched Top Chef from the beginning so I don’t remember when Gail Simmons made her first appearance. I’m sure I could google it, but I’m not going to. What I do remember is feeling like she was a breath of fresh air – a new voice with some very interesting things to say. I always appreciate her critiques and I take her opinions very seriously. I can’t say I loved Just Desserts but I thought she was the ideal host. Have I mentioned (lately) that I’ve met her on the red carpet? I was charmed.
