TV Goodness All-Star 2010: Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife

I watch a lot of TV. There are shows I’m fanatical about and actors I all but worship. My first pick is Julianna Margulies.

I wasn’t a huge fan when she was on ER but I warmed up considerably during her arc on Scrubs. It wasn’t until The Good Wife that I had any idea just how amazing she could be. I think I’d seen glimpses before but Julianna Margulies found her defining role. Archie Panjabi got her Emmy for this show, now it’s Julianna’s turn.

Every week I tune in to see what new roadblock will come at Alicia Florrick. Are her children being threatened? Is she making a breakthrough with Peter? What’s going on with Will? Is there a lesson to be learned from this week’s case? If the first season was about the Will/Peter question, I think the second has been all about Alicia. She doesn’t need a man to define her, although I definitely have an opinion as to which one I want her with. Alicia has to stay true to herself – both inside and out of the courtroom. Some of the cases have touched me on a deep, personal level and that’s what I want out of my entertainment. I want to think, to be challenged, to have an opinion. The Good Wife does that for me with it’s stories, writing, and acting. But most of all I want to see what will happen next – in Alicia’s life, at the firm, and in the courtroom. I can’t imagine taking this journey without Julianna Margulies as Alicia. In fact, I don’t think I’d want to.
