TV Goodness All-Star 2010: Candice Accola, The Vampire Diaries

This year, there were so many all-stars on the CW’s The Vampire Diaries, it was hard to pick just one. Michael Trevino stepped up big time in his transformation from troubled teen to reluctant werewolf; Nina Dobrev did an impressive job playing bad vamp Katherine and good girl Elena. Ian Somerhalder, well to me, he’s Hall of Fame material because he’s been so good as Damon since day one. But I decided my first 2010 All-Star Selection would go to the actress whose character became infinitely more interesting once she was turned into a vampire, Candice Accola.

I hate to say this, but I had just about written off Caroline Forbes after much of Season One. It was nothing against the actress; it’s just that Caroline seemed like an expendable character. I don’t mind saying I was dead wrong. Once Katherine turned her, she almost instantly proved I was a total idiot for ever thinking about writing her off. Candice’s scenes with Paul Wesley’s Stefan became instant favorites. Caroline had a whole new attitude in her scenes with Damon. Her relationship with her mom became interesting. Becoming a vampire even changed her relationships with her best friends Elena and Bonnie. And while I hate that she had to break up with Matt (a character I adore), Caroline made this beautiful connection with Tyler Lockwood in Season 2. I found myself rooting for them. Seriously. She stood by him when he turned for the first time. So amazing. Caroline Forbes has become exciting to watch not only because the character’s being gifted with great story, it’s also because Candice Accola has committed a hundred percent to this complex role. She totally won me over.
