Top Chef Just Desserts “Glee Club”

Ok. Usually my posts on this show are novel-length because apparently I’m trying to write this as if you haven’t watched the episode. Now, I’m going to assume that you have. Prepare for the shortness.

Quickfire Challenge. The guest judge is Sylvia Weinstock, America’s foremost cake designer. The remaining cheftestants are tasked with making a wedding cake in 90 minutes but they’re provided with the sheet cake. All they have to do is decorate, infuse with unique fillings, and make it taste delicious. Since most wedding cake makers usually take 2 or 3 days to prepare the cake this will definitely be a challenge.

Complication: Seth, who makes an engagement cake instead. He needs to participate in the challenge or be sent home already.

Winner: Erika. Her creation: Mocha Explosion with Kahlua Buttercream

Elimination Challenge. The chefs are split into two groups – The Pep Squad and the Glee Club. They’ll be throwing a bake sale to help the students raise money for trips they’d like to take. They’ll have 3 hours as the Top Chef kitchen then 30 minutes at the school to prep. Each person is responsible for one item and the winning team will receive $5K.

Winning team: The Pep Squad. It was close though. The Glee Club only lost by $10.

Individual winner: Eric. His creation: Peanut Butter Krispy Bar

It looks like the bogarting of the peanut butter actually helped him.

Who’s going home? Heather C. Danielle says she could taste the resentment in her cookie. Ouch. I’m not sure how I feel about that team display before the judges though. I didn’t feel like Heather was throwing anyone under the bus, however, if she wanted to do Whoopee Pies that’s what she should have done.

Other highlights:

– Malika calling Morgan on his disrespectful behavior. He needs to be called out more often and perhaps he’ll be nicer. I am happy Malika pulled it together after a pretty disastrous quickfire. I’m not ready to see her leave yet (voluntarily or otherwise).

– Johnny telling Seth to get out of his own way even though he thinks the Financier is perfect.
