Last week’s “G’Day Melbourne” got Nora and Kevin to Australia, and considering all flights are grounded due to a mysterious nuclear event, they aren’t leaving any time soon. This week’s episode of The Leftovers, “It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World,” has a good section of our remaining regulars (Matt, John, Michael, and Laurie) trying to make it to Melbourne to save Kevin.

Matt, a believer in Kevin’s holiness, is specifically on a mission to “save” Kevin in order to make sure he’s back in Miracle on the seventh anniversary of The Sudden Departure. With a variety of setbacks, including, but not limited to, a flight detour and a rogue lion, Matt and his traveling companions are in for a less than smooth ride. Tagging along is Laurie, the one dissenter amount “Book of Kevin” believers, who may not be entirely welcome on a trip that centers around bringing Kevin back because he’s the messiah.

We’ve been getting lots of in-depth character-centric episodes this season, and the title of this episode suggests we’re in for another. Matt is such a frustrating and yet compelling character, and the one overtly religious character who has been around since season one. He’s been hanging on the sidelines for awhile now, but remember, he is the author of the “Book of Kevin.” He’s as much at the core of all of this as Kevin or Nora. “It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World” is going to give us some much-needed insight in why Matt is the way he is.

The Leftovers airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
