Moment of Goodness: Castle Tries to Play It Cool, Castle “After the Storm”

There were a lot of great moments in the season 5 premiere of Castle. My favorite is an awkward and funny moment of Castle being Castle. Castle and Beckett have done the deed (yay, it’s seriously about time) and they’ve kind of decided to keep things quiet. Beckett had to hide then sneak out of Castle’s place and now, when the shoe’s on the other foot Castle won’t reciprocate. Kate realizes she’s also not ready for their relationship to be out there so when Ryan unexpectedly shows up at her place, it’s Castle’s turn to hide. But Castle is fully dressed so he doesn’t feel the need to seek shelter in the nearest closet. Then Kate says:

“Just act normal. If that’s even possible for you.”

I love that Castle says, “It’s me.” Yes, it is you so you should actually hide.Does he really think he can keep it together enough to hide the truth from Ryan? And you saw Kate practically quaking in her boots in the background, right?

When Ryan sees Castle standing there (a bit awkwardly – but that’s what makes the scene so much fun), he asks:

“Hey Castle. What are you doing here?”

“Well, I was just walking by the neighbor…hood. I only live 20…I, what are you doing here?”

I love that he can’t think of a good excuse. There were so many ways to answer the question, but I love that he couldn’t come up with a lie fast enough.

And then they’re both back to normal the moment Ryan mentions the case.

I kind of like that they’re hiding their relationship. I like that they want this all to themselves right now. It’s so precious and so special. I’m not sure how long they’ll be able to pull it off, but I’m looking forward to seeing them try.
