Moment of Goodness

A Parks and Recreation Moment of Goodness: Ben and Leslie Reunite

Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt are easily one of the cutest couples on TV yet they haven’t been in a relationship all season long. The obstacles? The election and Chris’ precious no coworkers dating rule. And while Parks and Recreation has been on fire with entertaining episode after entertaining episode, it’s been hard seeing these two try to navigate life without each other. Ben’s been this sad character and Leslie just hasn’t seemed complete. I hoped they’d just forget everything keeping them apart and get together already.Well, that finally happened in “Smallest Park.” It was at the smallest (and newest) park in Pawnee where the Moment of Goodness happened. With Anne Perkins’ help, Leslie realized she had to stop steamrolling all over everything. She could no longer force Ben to spend time with her after he made the difficult decision to stay away from her. What went down was a sweet scene between two wonderful characters (and actors). Leslie first started out apologizing for being a blonde-haired steamroller and not listening to how Ben wanted to deal with the break-up. She told him she understood if he didn’t want any contact with her. Even though Ben said he didn’t want to resort to this, he thought it was for the best. Leslie tried to accept it. But she couldn’t. She had a different proposal for him:

“There is another option. We could just say ‘screw it’ and do this thing for real.” “What?” “I miss you like crazy. I think about you all the time. I want to be with you. So let’s just say ‘screw it!.'” “We’d have to tell Chris.” “Yeah.” “It could turn into a scandal.” “Yeah.” “It could hurt your campaign, I mean…” “Yeah.” “How would you imagine we do this?” “I don’t know. But I…I know I feel and I want to be with you. But I’m done steamrolling people. This is how I feel. How do you feel?”

Then Ben kissed Leslie. In the smallest park in Pawnee. It was romantic and sweet and adorable and every other overwhelmingly awesome adjective you can think of. Separating the two of them at the end of last season didn’t quite work for me but I’m going to forget that now because I thoroughly enjoyed Ben and Leslie getting back together. Now I’m looking forward to how everyone’s going to react when they go public. Will those obstacles really even be obstacles? And how hilarious are they going to make it all? I’m not going to get ahead of myself and think about the possibilities just yet. I’m going to savor this sweet Moment of Parks and Rec Goodness for as long as I can.
