Guest Star Goodness

Guest Star Goodness: The Good Wife “Bad”

I think we’ve all heard a variation of the following: it’s all about the writing. And clearly the writing on this show is attracting the big guns. I’m impressed every week by the caliber of both guest and recurring stars but this past week has been the most impressive so far.

Anika Noni Rose. In her first appearance two weeks ago she made quite a (damaging) first impression during Alicia’s case. And when she ended up settling, she still seemed to be in control. Last week she’s the secret weapon Judge Adler springs on Glenn Childs and Peter Florrick. She is a force to be reckoned with and I can’t wait to see how she makes the lives of these two men hell. Recent TV credits: The Starter Wife and The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.

Kate Burton. She’s been around for a while but I’m ashamed to admit she didn’t really register on my radar until her time on Rescue Me and you’ll definitely remember her from Grey’s Anatomy. She’s pretty amazing all around. We saw her in an episode last year and it looks like she’ll be around for a little while this year. I’m excited about it and I hope to see further interactions between her and Diane.

Edward Herrmann. I know he’s worked since The Gilmore Girls (on Grey’s, 30 Rock, and L&O) but my fondest memories of him will always be as Richard Gilmore. Here he plays a professor who has come out of the classroom to try a case he (claims he) really believes in. And he seems to be doing quite well until Ms. Crozier works her magic on the judge and the jury.

Griffin Dunne. I know I’ve seen him in a number of things but I had to imdb.com him for a little refresher. In this episode he plays a sexist judge who has an agenda against Alicia. He thinks she’s responsible for leaking Glenn Childs’ deposition so he’s going to punish her in any way he can. Recent TV credits: Trust Me, Leverage, and White Collar.

Mamie Gummer. I can’t get enough of her. She knows how to work the system and she’s doing it. I think she’s unwise to underestimate Alicia but when we (hopefully see her again) she’ll have learned some new tricks. In the meantime, you’ll be able to catch her in Off the Map when it premiers in 2011.

Elizabeth Reaser. How fast does Will go through his women? Maybe that’s his way of nursing a broken heart. In any case, it’s nice to see Elizabeth on the small screen again. I wonder if she and Will are gonna be startin’ something (I’m sorry; I had to) or if this was just a one-off for her. My gut and this article tell me we’ll see her again because it’s great conflict for the Will/Alicia thing. She’s doing mostly movies these days (The Twilight Saga to be specific), but you might recognize her from Grey’s or The Ex List.

What great guest stars will tonight’s episode bring? I refuse to spoil it for myself so I’ll find out tonight. See you then.
